Local Doctors Partner with FCPS: Student Athletes and Staff Get Help from MMI
It's official. Local doctors formalized a partnership with Frederick County Public Schools recently to promote safety for student athletes and coaches and to provide wellness information to school-system staff.
Orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine physician Dr. Jeffrey Gilsdorf says, "This partnership between Mid-Maryland Musculoskeletal Institute (MMI) and the school system formalizes many of the services we have provided to FCPS students for some time. We enjoy supporting FCPS students and staff for many reasons: Several of our doctors were competitive athletes in high school and college, and they enjoy being around the competitions. Also, several have, or have had, children attending FCPS. We see this as a part of our continuing community involvement and responsibility."
MMI, which includes Orthopaedic Associates of Frederick, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Associates of Frederick and Rheumatology Associates of Frederick will provide orthopedic surgeons for on-field coverage at home football games at Gov. TJ, Linganore, Tuscarora and Urbana high schools as well as copies of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons' Athletic Training and Sports Medicine manual to each high school. The Institute will also host student interns who aspire to medical careers and provide summer and part-time jobs for students. It will hold a Saturday injury clinic and explore other collaborations related to sports-specific education and wellness seminars. FCPS will schedule, host and publicize the events.
